Recently I was scrolling through my YouTube feed and saw a review of the film The Last Dragon. The Last Dragon is a campy film that is now a pop culture classic.

The film is quirky, but contains compelling life lessons. The Last Dragon is about a young man, Leroy who is a devoted student and teacher of martial arts. Leroy aspires to achieve the highest level of mastery in his form of martial arts. At the highest level he will exhibit a golden glow. Leroy has to defeat Sho’nuff, the neighborhood bully who is a skilled martial artist as well. Sho’nuff is big and mean and has a posse of destructive lackeys. Throughout the film, Sho’nuff challenges Leroy to fight him to determine who is the best martial artist. Leroy avoids the confrontation a few times; however the showdown occurs when Sho’nuff physically threatens Leroy’s love interest and friends. Sho’nuff dominates the fight until Leroy recounts his actions and realizes that he is the superior fighter.
Leroy radiates the golden glow and overpowers Sho’nuff. Leroy is victorious! So, what can we learn from Leroy’s journey?
1. Do not look to others to validate your worth.
2. Do not betray your morals and values to be accepted by others.
3. You already have the qualities, character, experience, skills, etc. needed to reach your goal/conquer your fears.
4. Power derived from love will always conquer power derived from fear.
5. You got that glow, don't be afraid to let your light shine!
